Some softwares has source code that only the person, team or firm can modify. People call this kind of softwares “proprietary” or “closed source”. Adobe Photoshop is an example of closed source. Alternatively, we have softwares called open source.

Open source software (OSS) is a type of software in which source code is released under a license. In which copyright holder grants users the rights to study, change and distribute the software to anyone and for any purpose. It may be developed in a togetherly public manner. OSS is an eminent example of open collaboration. Eg are LibreOffice and the NU Image Manipulation Program

Microsoft is an American technology company, founded by Bill Gate and Paul Allen. They manufacture and sell computer softwares and other related products. Microsoft Windows is their most popular software. They are global. Microsoft officially adopted OSS fully into their business core in 2014 by Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft.

Why has Microsoft pivoted into open source?

The main purpose of this post is to answer the above. For me I believe these are the reasons;

looking at the way technology is moving now, open source is limitless. It is the main source for the increase in building web, mobile and cloud solutions. Some data and analytic remedies are only available in it.

This is one of the reasons Microsoft pivoted to open source. Most engineers are well aware of open source and many believe it’s where the industry is heading. They enjoy creating their own projects and having the ability to interact with others outside their enterprise to develop remeids. Giving them pliability and freedom is a tool in attracting better talent.

Trust

Because there are more eyes on it. The trust of OSS tends to be superior as well. With a worldwide community stutting a code, the output tends to result to a robust and trusted code. In fact, OSS code now powers about 90% of the internet.

Fast Marketing

Because of open source, solutions are easily available. They makes software marketing faster. It can be explored for free, it’s often much faster to check options and get remeids off the ground.

Conclusion


Open source is limitless, that what i believe. Microsoft is investing on it is not that amazing to me. They want to be the best company in the world till existence. Adopting to open source is a good option
